Landscape with Native Plants for a Natural Difference

When planning a residential landscape or garden in Tennessee, don’t forget to include some of our beautiful native plants.

Many native plants produce nectar, seeds, or berries that provide food for local wildlife, and pollinators like butterflies and bees.

They are environmentally friendly and require fewer chemicals and fertilizers because they are naturally adapted to our climate. They are extremely hardy and can withstand extreme cold and heat. This can mean less maintenance work for you and less watering in the heat of summer

There are a wide variety of native plants you can choose from including trees,

shrubs, wildflowers, vines, ferns, grasses, aquatic plants, and more. People are sometimes surprised to learn that Ooltewah Nursery offers such a broad and diverse selection of natives. They are available in a wide array of categories at Ooltewah Nursery, which is why they are intermingled with all our displays, rather than relegated to a single small "Natives" area. So while you shop at the nursery, look for the "native" sticker on our signage to help indicate natives. Also, visit the "Info Kiosk" inside our Showroom Floor for a printed copy of the native plants we normally carry. The Info Kiosk has lots of great complimentary fliers on a variety of topics to help you. Finally, "at Ooltewah Nursery, advice and smiles are always free." Our expert horticultural staff are happy to help you and answer questions.

Choose the right plants that match your garden's conditions, such as sun or shade, soil type, and moisture level wet or dry.  Plant natives in clusters or large groups for a better visual impact.  This helps create visual appeal and can help support pollinators.

Native plants play an essential role in Tennessee’s ecosystem.  Once your plants are established, you will enjoy many years of their exceptional blooms, lush foliage, and the local wildlife and pollinators that will frequent your garden.
