Adding Mushrooms To Your Landscape

Sunday, May 20th
2:00-4:00 p.m.

2 Angels Mushroom Farm and Ooltewah Nursery & Landscape Co., Inc. are partnering together to bring you this workshop.

We will begin with a class on mushroom ecology & lifecycle, and talk about the benefits of adding edible mushrooms to your home landscaping or garden. Your soil and nearby plants will benefit greatly from the addition of mushrooms! Then we will discuss the steps to planting, growing, and maintaining a delicious mushroom called Wine Caps, a.k.a. the Garden Giant (Stropharia rugoso-annulata) [pictured]. This local native species can grow very large, but it is best when harvested small. It's burgundy colored caps are both beautiful and scrumptious! Finally, we will actually build a Wine Cap bed together at the nursery so that you will feel confident in doing so at home later. If you plant your bed now, you should have mushrooms by late summer/early fall. Wear comfy work clothes and shoes. You may also want to bring some gardening/work gloves.

For your registration fee of $50, you will receive class instruction, hands-on experience, and a printed outline from the class including complete instructions to build, plant, grow, harvest, & maintain a Wine Cap mushroom bed. You will also receive one large bag of live Wine Cap mushroom spawn (a $35 value), which is enough to plant a 25 sq. ft. bed. Couples may register together as one (receive 1 bag of spawn), or you can register separately (receive 2 bags of spawn).
